Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture
Unlike Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Acupuncture has a broader scope of practice and is used to treat conditions beyond those that are musculoskeletal in nature. TCM Acupuncture works on the principle of unblocking chi (ch’i or qi) by inserting needles at particular points on the body to balance the opposing forces of yin and yang. Chi is an energy that allegedly permeates all things. It is believed to flow through the body along 14 main pathways called meridians.
Different herbs have different properties and can balance particular parts of the body. Prescribing a particular herb or concoction of herbs means the practitioner’s diagnosis has to take into account the state of the patient’s Yin and Yang, and the elements that are governing the affected organs.
